There’s nothing like coming home after muscling your way through a hangover at work all day just to unbutton your jeans and watch Kirk Cousins throw the pigskin to the other team’s defense in primetime. The football Gods have never been nice to Ol’ Kirky under the bright lights. Not only do they keep forcing him into standalone games early in the season, but this is the third year in a row he’ll be forced to go to Philadelphia in primetime in Week Two. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Philadelphia but… gross!
Atlanta Falcons @ Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5), O/U 47.5
Ol’ Kirky is rolling with a new squad this time around. He’s got some shiny new weapons with him and, of course, a medically repaired and fragile Achilles tendon. Cousins looked like his mobility was still quite limited against the Steelers in week one. And it remains to be seen if he can return to the form he had in Minnesota, but I’m not ready to write him off after one start.
Quarterbacks who don’t play in the preseason always start slow and that could have also been the case for Cousins against a vaunted Pittsburgh defense. Philadelphia’s defensive front is one of the team’s strengths, but I don’t doubt Cousins’ ability to take advantage of their weak secondary.
On the flip side, the Falcons brought in major pieces like Matthew Judon and Justin Simmons to help on their defense which allows me to think Atlanta can keep this one close. Say what you want about Justin Fields and the Steelers’ offense, but it was not easy to move the ball on Atlanta in week one. I think Philly could run into the same issue. Pick: Falcons +6.5, Ol’ Kirky gets his groove back
A Little Something for the Eagles Fans
If the improved Falcons defense starts getting to Jalen Hurts, we saw him make a concerted effort in week one to look to Saquon Barkley in the receiving game. He’s always been a reliable option through the air, even when Daniel Jones was throwing the ball at his ankles. Last week, we took his receiving yards over, and it was an easy cash.
I don’t know if he’ll have the same success yardage-wise as he did in week one, as I suspect a lot of his receptions will be dump-offs. But I do think we will see the same type of usage as he did in week one. I’m more willing to bet on him catching the ball, as opposed to him racking up yardage. If you like
Pick: Saquon Barkley Over 2.5 Receptions
