College Football Trashy Tailgate Week 3: The Cougs!

Washington State (2-0) at Washington (2-0)

There’s nothing like a revenge game to awaken the upset gods. Last season, Washington State got to watch Washington beat them by 3 in the yearly Apple Cup before moving onto the national championship game and ultimately to the Big Ten while Wazzu remained in the withering Pac-12.

In the team’s first two weeks, both wins, WSU QB John Mateer passed for 352 yards and five touchdowns against Portland State and ran for 197 yards against Texas Tech. The Huskies are also 2-0 but didn’t look great against Weber State and Eastern Michigan.

Memphis (2-0) at Florida State (0-2)

This is almost a perfect upset pick. The Seminoles are 0-2 after losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College, while the Tigers are 2-0 after blowouts over North Alabama and Troy. Memphis is one of the best Power Six teams, while FSU is trying to get itself and its bunch of transfers together to survive in the race for the 12-team CFP.

Despite it all, we are looking for the ‘Noles to right the ship. FSU QB D.J. Uiagalelei hasn’t looked great this season and his starting job is in question, but he’ll finally find his footing — and his targets — to get FSU in the win column.

Colorado (1-1) at Colorado State (1-1)

It’s become increasingly difficult to understand what Coach Deion’s master plan is. The Buffaloes have lost nine of their past 10 games against Power Five schools and his QB son Shedeur seemingly blamed his offensive line for the loss in Lincoln last weekend.

It would be easy to predict the Buffaloes have a bounceback against their in-state rival, but we will nay-say on that. Team Sanders will continue to implode, and questions about his future with the program will grow.

Texas A&M (1-1) at Florida (1-1)

Freshman D.J. Lagway is trying to save his starting QB job after rough start to the season, but the Gators’ decent front seven looks improved after the horrible start to the season against Miami. Florida coach Billy Napier needs this win to help shoo away the buzzards gathering overhead.

Virginia Tech (1-1) at Old Dominion (0-2)

The Monarchs have beaten the Hokies the past two times the teams have played in Norfolk. ODU is winless but was competitive against South Carolina and East Carolina, losing by a combined 10 points. Look for Monarchs QB Grant Wilson to throw for more than the 94 yards he did in the loss at VTU last season.
