College Football Trashy Tailgate Week 9: BYU’s for Real

Senor Vargas has two straight 0-5 Saturdays! He is truly the Rey de la Basura, which is Spanish for ‘King of Trash.’ Hey, maybe this is our lucky week!

No. 11 BYU (7-0) at UCF (3-4)

What do the oddsmakers know that we don’t? UCF is favored at home despite having lost four straight games. No matter. The Cougars have already shown they are a legitimate CFP contender, winning at SMU and blowing out Kansas State.

Go with BYU to win outright.

No. 8 LSU (6-1) at No. 14 Texas A&M (6-1)

Aggies QB Conner Weigman looked fairly trashy last week in a win over Mississippi State — 15-for-25 for 217 yards and 2 interceptions. LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (317 yards per game, 18 TDs to 6 INTs) is much better.

Go with the visitor Tigers to win.

No. 12 Notre Dame (6-1) at No. 24 Navy (6-0)

Sure, the Midshipmen have a scary dual-threat QB in Blake Horvath (10 TDs passing, 10 rushing), but it’s been mostly against weak teams. The Irish are much more battle-tested. They beat Texas A&M, Louisville, and Georgia Tech. Yeah, they lost to Northern Illinois, but that was ages ago in Week 2.

Go with ND to win outright and keep themselves in the CFP hunt.

No. 22 SMU (6-1) at Duke (6-1)

The Mustangs are averaging nearly 440 yards and 41 points per game and gave ranekd BYU a battle at home before losing by 3. Duke, meanwhile, has four one-score wins over not-great teams and lost at Georgia Tech earlier this month.

Go with SMU to win and cover the spread.

Texas Tech (5-2) at TCU (4-3)

Red Raiders RB Tahj Brooks has 804 yards (5.4 per carry) and 8 touchdowns, and TCU’s defense is allowing 4.63 ypc and almost 182 rushing yards per game against Big 12 teams.

Look for TT to score a road upset.
