Beyond the Pail: Week 4 Fantasy Dumpster Dive

*Trigger Warning* As we head into Week 4, we are nearly 25% of the way through the fantasy regular season. By now, most leagues have been separated into the haves, the have-nots, and the never had a chance. A bizarrely injury-riddled first four weeks and abysmal quarterback play have rendered many pre-season draft grades obsolete, with most people scraping the bottom of the waiver wire barrel. As always, the naturally reactionary populace is scrambling for the latest hot hand en masse while tossing potential league winners in the free agent scrap heap. So, let’s dig into the fantasy rubbish and find the most putrid-smelling winners among the trash.

Demarcus Robinson, WR Los Angeles Rams

With Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua still sidelined for the foreseeable future, there are few enticing targets for Matthew Stafford to look for downfield. Despite this reality, Robinson was the most frequently dropped position player following Week 3. While Tutu Atwell was on the receiving end of most of the big plays in the Rams’ comeback win against the Niners on Sunday, Robinson should see plenty of targets coming his way against stout secondaries in LA’s next two contests when they take on the Bears and Packers. Pluck him out of the trash now before his next big game.

Keon Coleman, WR Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills just might be the best team in the NFL. Josh Allen is playing at an MVP level, and the team seems to be as cohesive and well-prepared as any in the league. Granted, their three wins this season have come against the mediocre Cardinals, headless Dolphins, and winless Jags. However, the performances in each game have been more impressive than the last. Monday night’s obliteration of the hapless Jaguars included Keon Coleman’s first career touchdown on his lone target of the game. The Bills have been able to rely on a dynamic running game, and Allen has spread the ball around to just about everybody on the field. Keon Coleman might be a…er..”slow learner,” but he is bound to take on a larger role as Buffalo heads into a much more daunting part of their schedule. They’ll face the Ravens, Texans, and Jets in the next three weeks and will likely have to be more aggressive throwing the ball during those games. Make sure to snag Coleman before he becomes a household name.

Isaiah Likely, TE Baltimore Ravens

After what looked like a career-defining breakout performance from Likely in Brazil on the NFL’s opening night, the 24-year-old tight end was the most coveted player on the open market. He went for 111 yards on 9 catches and a touchdown in Week 1 and was a shoe size away from hauling in a second score as time expired. Since then, Likely has managed just 30 yards total on 3 catches and has caused many to regret wasting a large chunk of their FAAB budget on him after just one game. But now is the perfect opportunity to buy low on a guy that surely has the talent to be a TE1 for playoff-bound fantasy squads. Likely was the 5th most dropped, non-IR position player after Week 3 despite playing for a great offensive team that will be in the postseason hunt for the rest of the season. The Ravens looked discombobulated in an embarrassing Week 2 loss to the Raiders and fell a little too in love with the running game after getting out to a big lead against the Cowboys in Week 3. Lamar Jackson even publicly shamed the coaching staff for not trying to put more points on the board in Dallas and nearly relinquishing a 20+ point lead. This is a message the Ravens’ brain trust inevitably heard loud and clear, so we should expect to see more aggressiveness in the passing game in the next few weeks. Make sure to pluck the once shiny tight end from the dustbin and stay two steps ahead of the bozos who gave up on him too early.
