College Football Trashy Tailgate Week 12: An Experiment

Your roller-coaster predictor Brochacho Vargas is going to let his brain coast this week. Rather than make picks that probably will suck, he’s letting the top ATS teams prove themselves. There are 12 FBS teams that have a 75 percent or better rate at covering the spread this season. Let’s see how they do in Week 12.

Army (7-1-1 ATS)

Week 12 game: Bye week

Tulane (8-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: No. 25 Tulane (-7) at Navy. The No. 25 Green Wave can get into the CFP 12-team tournament if they win the rest of their regular season games, but the Middies have lost only once on Senior Day over the past 20 years.

Indiana (8-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: Bye week

Marshall (7-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: Coastal Carolina at Marshall (-8.5). The Thundering Herd dominated in the teams’ last meetup.  Marshall running back A.J. Turner has run for 793 rushing yards and six touchdowns while averaging 9.2 yards per carry.

Minnesota (7-2-1 ATS)

Week 12 game: Bye week

South Carolina (7-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: No. 24 Missouri at No. 23 South Carolina (-14). The Gamecocks go for their fourth straight SEC victory, while the Tigers try to keep their faint CFP hopes alive.

Arizona State (7-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: Arizona State (+7.5) at No. 20 Kansas State. The winner of this game has a good chance to eventually reach the Big 12 championship game and a berth into the CFP. The loser could be effectively eliminated.

Colorado (7-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: Utah at No. 18 Colorado (-11). Coach Prime (Deion Sanders) has the Buffaloes on track for a CFP spot, while the Utes are reeling after five straight defeats and the season-ending injury to QB Cameron Rising.

BYU (7-2 ATS)

Week 12 game: Kansas at No. 7 BYU (-2.5). No. 6 BYU BYU is guaranteed a spot in the Big 12 championship game if they win at least two of their last three regular season games. Kansas has played well in recent weeks and derailed the Cougars in their 2023 matchup.

Georgia Southern (6-2-1 ATS)

Week 12 game: Troy at Georgia Southern (-7.5). GSU QB JC French has 1,988 passing yards and 14 touchdowns on a 65.4% completion percentage this season.

Virginia (6-2-1 ATS)

Week 12 game: Virginia (+22) at No. 8 Notre Dame. Anthony Colandrea has aired it out for 1,948 yards (216.4 per game), completing 63.2% of his throws, with 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games.

Notre Dame (6-2-1 ATS)

Week 12 game: Virginia at No. 8 Notre Dame (-22). The Fighting Irish are ranked 12th in scoring offense (38.3 ppg) and third in scoring defense (11.1). QB Riley Leonard has passed for 1,575 yards and run for 609.
