Week 3 Thursday Night Trash Pile: A Dallas Cowboys Self-Help Plan

Everyone’s life gets off track sometimes. Some people move back home to find their roots. Others go on a trip to a strange land on a journey of self-discovery. I like to take long walks by the water and think about life. When the Dallas Cowboys’ season goes off the tracks, they stuff the New York Giants in a locker and start to feel better.

The Cowboys and Giants meet twice per season as NFC East rivals, and last season the Cowboys dominated those matchups with scores of 40-0 and 49-17. This year, the Cowboys find themselves at a tawdry 1-2 and in dire need of a win. And with seemingly perfect timing they have a Thursday Night date with their favorite division rival.

Dallas Cowboys (-6) @ New York Giants, O/U 45.5

I’ve been very clear so far about how the Cowboys have dominated the Giants, but I’m going to beat this point into the ground. The Cowboys have beaten the Giants in 13 of their last 14 matchups. The last time the Giants took both games from the Cowboys in a season was in 2016, which was Tony Romo’s last season. Of those 13 wins, the Cowboys have won by more than six points 11 times.

The Giants got a gutsy win on the road in Cleveland last week, but that may be the last game all season where Daniel Jones will be the best quarterback in the matchup. It’s a shame that New York (I mean New Jersey) won’t even get a full week to enjoy their win.

If you agree with my pick, or if you’re a foolish Giants fan who thinks they have a semblance of a chance, lock in your bet with the widget below.

Pick: Dallas -5.5 or 6

But, but, the Cowboys’ defense is bad right??

Correct! But the Giants’ defense is worse! I think there will be a lot of yards for both teams in this game. However, the Cowboys run game has yet to click and the Giants have looked abysmal in the red zone. So, I’m going to stay away from the over in this one.

I think the best way to attack the on-field handicap is through the stud wide receivers in this game. Ceedee Lamb falls into a group of wide receivers that’s seen diminished production on the field after holding out for a new deal in the preseason, along with Ja’Marr Chase and Brandon Aiyuk. I like his over receiving yards in this game, but just in case the holdout rustiness continues, I have to make my official pick on the Giants’ side of the ball.

Daniel Jones throws the ball to rookie phenom Malik Nabers a bazillion times per game and Mike Zimmer’s defense still isn’t clicking. It’s an overrated Dallas secondary, and even the worst quarterbacks in the league will be able to find some success against them until they establish an identity. Malik Nabers will be the lone bright spot for New York in this one.

Pick: Malik Nabers Over 71.5 Receiving Yards
