Week 10 International Series Preview: A Giant Stink Bomb in Bavaria

For 105 years, the Treaty of Versailles was the worst agreement in the history of Germany. That was until the NFL agreed to send the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants to Munich in 2024. A pair of 2-7 teams will make the 8-hour flight this week to complete the NFL’s International Series and showcase the worst the league has to offer before a global audience. It’s hard to know if the NFL is punishing two of the leagues most incompetent franchises by sending them halfway around the world or if they are trying to hide one of the grossest matchups of the season behind a 9:30am EST start. Regardless of the reason, it’s hard to fathom the collective ineptitude that will be on display when most football fans will be pouring their first cup of coffee on Sunday morning. Not only do both teams have no chance of sniffing the playoffs this year, but each feature a quarterback that respective fans cannot wait to see wearing a different jersey at the conclusion of the season. Both Daniel Jones and Bryce Young will likely go down as two of the biggest first round busts in NFL history and have done little to disprove fans and team brass of that notion through the first half of this season. The Giants desperate attempts to move on from Jones were on full display on HBO this offseason and Young was already benched for journeyman Andy Dalton earlier this year. The disfunction and depression will be palpable as soon as the ball is kicked off in Allianz Arena and the game should act as a tepid appetizer for the rest of the Week 10 slate if nothing else.

The Bet I Like the Most

Most bettors will be jumping on the under for this one, expecting a sloppy and disjointed effort from both sides. However, facing one of the leagues worst defenses that includes the worst pass rush in the NFL, the Giants have a chance to play spoiler for what will probably be one of the squarest bets of the year. Instead, the smart money should be on the Panthers continued inability to score against a Giants defense that loves to get after the quarterback. Panthers team total under 16.5 is the play.

A Bet for Giants Fans

It’s not the juiciest from the odds standpoint but it’s usually a smart move to bet on revenge in the NFL. Revenge will be on the menu in a big way when linebacker Brian Burnes lines up against his former team Sunday morning. The newest Giants weapon has tallied five sacks in his first nine games for Big Blue and is a prime candidate to pick up a few more in Week 10. We just need one to cash this bet.

A Bet for Panthers Fans

If you’re looking for a bright spot in an otherwise disastrous season for the Panthers you can find it in the form of rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette. The former South Carolina standout has been a welcome addition to the passing game since being selected as the final pick in the 1st round of this years draft and has found the end zone in each of the last two weeks. If the Panthers do find the end zone this week (and that’s a big if) I suspect it will be Legette that gets it done.
