A Special Friday Night Trash Pile in Brazil

Vamos a Brasil para el futbol NorteAmericano! The NFL is heading to São Paulo for its first-ever opening weekend Friday game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers!

The Eagles are just two seasons removed from crapping down their own leg in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Packers put together a crazy postseason run last season by smacking the Cowboys and nearly pulling the rug out from under the 49ers. Both of these teams have a ton of variables that could work for or against them throughout the whole season. Friday is going to be a solid data point to see how these teams will stack up in the NFC.

The São Paulo Pick

I don’t read into the Eagles’ collapse down the stretch too much in regards to this year. What they needed was experience on their staff, and they have that by hiring Kellen Moore at OC and Vic Fangio at DC. The Eagles are brimming with talent on both sides of the ball, and a consistent and comfortable coach will put the right players in the right spots to succeed.

The Packers fortified their secondary in the offseason with the addition of S Xavier McKinney, but what they really needed was help in defending the run. They spent a few later-round draft picks and free agency acquisitions on some LB depth, but there was no major overhaul on the league’s 28th-ranked rush defense. Meanwhile, the Eagles added RB Saquon Barkley to the league’s 8th-ranked rushing attack. Although the loss of six-time All-Pro C Jason Kelce will sting, Philly has churned out offensive line talent for several years now.

Pick: Eagles -2

Last season, Saquon put up 15+ yards receiving yards in 8 of his 14 games played. The year before, when he played a full season, he eclipsed this mark in 10 games. The Eagles offense should function way more efficiently than the Giants teams he was a part of, and Philly has always shown a penchant for dumping it off to the running back.

If the Eagles struggle to move the ball downfield against a reinforced Packer’s secondary, Hurts could look to Barkley in the flat and rely on his ability to gain yards after the catch.

If you’re looking for a little more juice, DraftKings offers 50+ receiving yards for Barkley at +850, a mark he hit twice last season. Throw the money from your couch cushions on that alternate line on top of the original bet.

Pick: Saquon Barkley Over 15.5 Receiving Yards
