Okay, seriously, have you seen the ending of Divergent’s third movie, Allegiant? It was such a letdown! If you loved the books, you’d probably be as furious as I am. They totally butchered it!
First of all, let’s talk about how off it was from the books. Veronica Roth’s novels had this intense, emotional ending that actually made sense and felt right for the characters. But the movie? Oh my God, they just threw all that in the trash. Instead of sticking to the gripping, thought-provoking story we all loved, they gave us some watered-down, generic plot that was all over the place. The characters we fell in love with? They were barely recognizable! Tris, who’s supposed to be this brave, self-sacrificing heroine, was turned into a bland version of herself. And Tobias (Four), the strong and complex character, was just sort of there, with none of the depth he had in the books. It felt like they were just shadows of their book versions. It was so frustrating!
And that final scene, don’t even get me started. In the book, Tris’s sacrifice is a huge deal. It’s emotional and powerful, and it really hits you in the feels. She dies while saving everyone else, and it’s a moment that’s supposed to show her growth and courage. But in the movie, they just totally missed the mark. They skipped over the emotional weight of her death and gave us this rushed, anticlimactic ending that made no sense at all. Instead of dying, Tris survives, and the movie wraps up with this cheesy, feel-good ending that completely undermines the whole point of her character arc. To make it even worse, the final scene has David, the antagonist, just creepily watching Tris and Four from a distance. No resolution, no satisfying conclusion, just him staring at them like a creepy voyeur. And then… credits. Seriously? That’s how they decided to end it? It was such a slap in the face to her character and the story.
Visually, the final scene was a mess too. The special effects and cinematography were so underwhelming. It should have been this epic, intense moment, but instead, it was just bland and boring. The climactic escape scene, which should have been thrilling and heart-pounding, looked like it was made on a shoestring budget. It was like they ran out of money or ideas and just gave up. There was no real excitement or emotion. It was just… blah.
The pacing was terrible too. Everything felt so rushed and sloppy. Important parts of the story were glossed over or ignored entirely. Characters like Caleb, Peter, and Christina were just in the background, with no real development or purpose. The lack of attention to detail and continuity was so obvious. It was like the filmmakers just didn’t care anymore.
In the end, the movie’s ending was a huge disappointment. It strayed so far from the book, ruined the characters, and left us with a final scene that was completely forgettable. As a fan who invested so much in the series, it felt like a total betrayal. I can’t help but wonder what could have been if they had just stayed true to the heart and soul of the Divergent series. What a wasted opportunity!
